Kick up the Prom

Start your walk at the carpark in the direction of Barna, don’t forget to kick the wall at the end of the footpath as you turn, an old-time Galway tradition. Pop onto the beach to tread the sands and collect shells if the tide is out. Then head back along to the Toft Playground past the Aquarium, and finish up with a cappuccino/bambychino at Arabica’s at the Aquarium.

Keeping Coole

Coole Park near Gort has plenty to keep kids occupied. Several walks through the forest, including the family walk which takes you past the Coole river (see if you can spot Yeats’ swans), walled garden with sundial, The Autograph tree, picnic area, plenty of grass to run about and play on. Also, check out the deer, in the paddock up from the café at the stable area. Toilets at the beginning of the forest walk.

Visiting Brigit

Stop by Brigit’s Garden between Moycullen and Oughterard (signposted after Lough Ross heading towards Oughterard). Enjoy the Celtic garden, nature trail (complete with sheets for the kids to complete for a free gift), giant sundial and café. Open during the winter months by appointment only.

To Rinville and Back

Take a drive out to Oranmore and beyond to Rinville Park (follow the signs for Galway Bay Hotel). Park near the sea and head up the hill and along the path to the Castle, and the lovely playground in the Castle orchard. (stroller friendly) Come back through the woods. For another walk, head round the shore past the Yacht Club and round the point to the hotel.

We Love Loughrea

When was the last time you stopped in Loughrea (excepting those of you who live there of course!)? Take the right at the sharp bend, coming in from Galway, and head down to the lake where you’ll find one of the best play parks in the region. Lots of different equipment for all age groups, plus tennis courts, picnic area, walk along the lakeside, free parking.
